the Sami people

The brightly attired reindeer herding tribe of Scandinavia are one of the few indigenous tribes left in the world.

They are beautiful and fascinating, preserving their culture in a technological world.

The popular images of Santa's elves obviously are inspired by the Sami. They look like Christmas to those of us with European backgrounds.

They embrace modern conveniences and technology white maintaining their arctic agricultural lifestyle.

Watch the  National Geographic video "Walking with Reindeer" here.
