Derriere

A friend's recently been to Paris and told me about this little bar, by the same owner of Sketch and Momo in London, Derriere, meaning around or bottom, is so named because of the location. From the street, you won't see the bar, but if you take a little walk down an alley, it opens up into courtyard and this quirkily decorated place. The smoking room's entrance is a cupboard (very Narnia, I know) and the main room is filled with a mix match of furniture including a table tennis. The owner, Mourad Mazous, seems to like capitalizing on one places success by opening sister bars next to each other (as in the case of Momo and Mo' Cafe in Heddon Street, London, and in Paris 404, Andy Wahloo and Derriere on Rue Des Gravilliers). He obviously has an eye for detail (or a decorator that does) and knows that nostalgia and comfort makes for an attractive location. I love the launch campaign for Derriere with the card between the butt cheeks of a magazine (?). This mix match or found objects is completely my taste, although my place tends to look more storage room than chic. Still, one can dream.
This way to the smokers room...
In the smokers room.
