Creating your own wall art can be simple!

All you need are a few basic materials and a little bit of inspiration.

Now that summer is in all its glory, why not take to the great outdoors for some of the materials needed for this project?

You probably can find plenty of leaf and flower specimens in your very own backyard or garden.

Guest Project -- Make DIY Typography Wall Art {tutorial}

Hi Tatertots and Jello!

 I am Lindsay,

editor of the blog, Lee La La.

I am delighted to be here with you all today!

This is me:

If you stop by my blog,

I am sure to be talking about being the momma to this little girl,

The wife to this handsome,

or all things in between.

I am a domestic work in progress, learning the ropes of Mommy hood one day at a time.

Today is a big day for me as I get the HONOR of guest posting at Jen's blog.

Jen is celebrity status for me....

So, THANK YOU for having me!

Because I have a CRUSH on home decor,

today I am going to share with you a DIY typography project that I recently made for my home.

{PSST, it's SUPER easy}

Let's begin, shall we?

2 pieces of 12"x24" ply wood

black paint

white paint

large paint brush for the black paint

small brush for the letters

120 grit sand paper

stencils

pencil

saw tooth hooks

1. First, you are going to paint 2 coats of black paint onto both pieces of ply wood. I painted the sides as well at this point. Let dry completely.

2. Next, you will lay out your stencils how you want them to read on your print.

Begin tracing with your pencil.

I let the letters over lap and run off the edges for a more vintage feel.

3.Once your wording is laid out properly, you will begin painting.

I freehanded my letters, but you could also skip the pencil step and paint directly from the stencil. I've done both, and I found free handing turns out cleaner.

Note: Your painting does not have to be perfect because the sanding step will hide all imperfections.

Once your letters are painted, let dry completely.

4.
Using your sandpaper, you will now sand over your entire print.
I sanded all corners and edges, as well as accented certain areas until the original wood color or the paint color underneath shows thru. This gives your print a rugged aged touch.

5.
I added saw tooth hangers on the back of each piece and hung one beneath the other.

There you have it!

I love the way it looks with my photo gallery.

I've made this print in various colors as well as different sayings.

How cute is this one I made for a bride-to-be friend of mine?

Thank you SO much for hanging with me today.

I'd be so excited if you stopped by my blog and said hello.

Meeting new friends makes me happy!

Guest Project -- Love Birds Wall Hanging {tutorial}

Hello all you wonderful Tatertots &Jello followers!

I am beyond excited to be here sharing a tutorial with you today. I met Jen at CHA this past January and wasn't a bit surprised at how nice she was. If you get a chance to meet her you won't be sorry.

My name is Dresden and I absolutely love blogging!

My blog is dresdencarrie where I share tutorials, my favorite things, recipes, and just about everything else. I work full time as a Graphic Designer for Silhouette America and love it! It is such a fun place to work and I am so grateful for my job. In my free time I post on my blog and sew. My mom taught me to sew growing up and I am so glad she did, it is my favorite hobby.

Today I am sharing a tutorial for a wall hanging I made out of some scraps of fabric and an old frame I had laying around (actually a wedding gift that I wasn't too fond of :))! The inspiration for this piece came from a pillow found here and a card found here.

First I took this frame and painted it a nice white color so it would stand out against the fabric I chose.

Next I cut out all these little birds using the Silhouette with the Fabric Interfacing on my fabric.

Then I arranged the birds on my piece of fabric, which actually didn't take too long after I got out my giant ruler.
You want to know my favorite thing about the fabric interfacing from Silhouette? It is double sided, so once I had the birds in place I simply ironed them on and they stayed in place the whole time I was sewing them on. You could of course use the no-sew interfacing, but I prefer the sewable because I love the stitched look.
I chose a tiny zig-zag stitch in pink to give them a little more character. After sewing it you could either wash the entire piece or do what I did...use my fingernails to fray the edges.
Once they were sewn on I put it in the frame and there ya go!

It's been a real treat being here today! I hope you'll come visit me over at dresdencarrie real soon!

Thanks Dresden. that is absolutely adorable!!

Guest Project -- Make Embellished Sihouette Wall Art!!

Hello to all of you fabulously creative Tatertots & Jello readers out there!

I'm Sierra from Blue Robin Cottage and I am truly honored to share my Embellished Silhouette wall art tutorial with you! Thank you Jen for giving me this wonderful opportunity! :)

I'm a stay at home mother of one adorable daughter and wife to my wonderful rockstar hubby. I'm still fairly new to all of this crafting business but I have enjoyed creating my whole life. I started Blue Robin Cottage because I wanted other woman to be inspired and feel happy and excited about crafting the way that I do! :)

I was inspired to create this project when I realized that my poor daughter had no artwork in her room and I just couldn't have that! So I decided to make my own!

Here's what you will need for this project:

*4 different fabric pieces (enough to fit whatever picture frame you are using- I found some that matched      my daughter's room)

*Enough Pellon to cover the back of each of your fabric pieces (I used about 1 1/2 yards)

*Black card stock

*Embellishments (ribbons, trim, buttons...use what ever you have on hand)

*Small alphabet letter stamp set and black ink pad

*Hot glue gun (a small tipped glue gun works perfectly for this project)

*Stencils of silhouettes or a Cricut and "A Child's Year" cartridge

*Triangle template for mini bunting

First, cut out your stencils. If you don't have a electronic cutting machine, you can print out template silhouettes on the computer, place them overtop your card stock and cut them out by hand. I printed out little girls doing seasonal activities using my "A Child's Year" cartridge, to go along with my seasons of the year theme.

Now, measure and cut out the Pellon and piece of fabric to fit the size of your frame (I used the glass in the frame as my template):

Now its time to iron on the Pellon to your fabric. Pellon is a great fabric stiffener. If you didn't want to use Pellon, you could always glue your fabric to a piece of cardboard or cardstock. I just like to use it because it takes away that translucent look of the fabric.

Iron the Pellon to the fabric by sticking the shiny side of the Pellon facing the back of your piece of fabric. Iron overtop of the right side of the fabric by starting in the middle and ironing out making sure the fabric and Pellon have bonded well.

Next, hot glue your silhouette onto your fabric piece:

Now its time for the fun part...embellishing your silhouette! This was my favorite part of the project because I could really get creative! :)

Think cute details. :) I gave some of the silhouette girls earrings and headbands. Use whatever you have on hand.

To make your mini bunting for this project... make a triangle template using lightweight cardboard. Trace your template on top of your fabric piece and cut out enough triangles to spell out the name of the season:

Use your small stamps to stamp the letters on your bunting triangles:

Then, hot glue ribbon or string across the top of your lovely work of art. Hot glue the mini bunting triangles on top of your ribbon/string.

Here's an example of the different types of mini bunting I did for each season:

And there you have it! Beautiful artwork that you made and can hang in your child's room.

I know my daughter is pretty stoked about them.

You can also make them a little more personal by putting your child's name on the bunting. I think they would make great gifts don't you? :)

Thanks again for having me! :)

Happy crafting!

XOXOXO

Absolutely darling!!

Thanks for the fun tutorial, Sierra!!
