I'm a fan of lists. I have to do lists scattered around my house along with grocery lists, checklists, goal lists, etc. I've been reading the greatest book "The Savvy Crafters Guide to Success" This is a list of notes and tips I think are exceptionally helpful in operating a craft business:
Important Tips & Notes to Consider with a Craft Business:

-You can't AFFORD to procrastinate when you want to make money with handmade crafts

-Get a passport as soon as you decide to enter this life as an artist

-Buy a ledger or an accounting program to record your monthly expenditures

-Incoming and Outgoing monies should be entered onto an accounting program like Quicken

-Get noticed by approaching books, magazines, online zines, art zines, and e-zines that are all waiting to hear from you

-Developing style is part of developing your image

-Business cards, letterheads, envelopes, postcards, thank-you notes, catalogs, flyers, mailing-list sign-up sheets, invoices, packing slips, purchase orders, labels, hangtags, stickers, information inserts for customers purchases, packing material (boxes) purchase bags, display signs, merchandise displays, trading cards, etc should all have your logo and match your theme

-For gift enclosures and hangtags, think about putting your artistic statement on them or adding something about the item's history or interesting highlights

-Thank you notes are an aspect of doing business on a professional level, while adding a human touch to your image

-A bio is simply a condensed version of your biography, usually only two to three short paragraphs

-Your bio is a chance to explain why you’re qualified to do what you do

-Building your list from event attendees allows you to make contact with people and let them know when you will be in town, when you have updated your website and when you have more things that may interest them.

Portfolios:

-Many times, you will be asked to submit a mini version of your portfolio through the mail or over the internet

-Even if you don't go into a gallery or juried show, it is good to start a portfolio that includes all your awards and accomplishments like being published, being included in a museum, or being the artist in the latest one-woman art show

-The first layer in portfolios is photos. Include only your best work

-To make a simple yet effective portfolio, take a simple sheet of heavy cardstock and fold it in half to be 5" x 7"

-attach your business card making slits on the front of your portfolio so the corners of the card fit neatly in the slots

-the 2nd layer in a portfolio is your artists’ statement. It should include your goals as an artist, your history and your medium, why you do what you do and how you hope the affect the world around you. Keep it brief. Only two to three paragraphs at the most.

-Next, you need to show what you have exhibited. If you've been shown at galleries and museums, list them by name and date.
