Fall Embroidery Hoop Door Hanging {tutorial}!!

I have LOVED all of the fun tutorials featuring embroidery hoops floating all over blogland lately.

There are so many awesome projects using these humble sewing tools.

So when my *CUTE* sister Ashley called me up asking what a trendy Fall Wreath project would be -- of course I answered -- "something with embroidery hoops".

And here's her fun and whimsical Fall Embroidery Hoop Door Hanging!!

I love it!!

 Here's how to make one:

Take it away Ashley --

Supplies:

10" embroidery hoop (or whatever size you want to use)

Linen or fabric to place in center of hoop

embroidery thread

fall colored felt

burlap garland (I found mine at Jo-Anne's in the floral section)

  • First off, I put the linen fabric in the center of the embroidery
    hoop.
I made it taut and left the extra fabric hanging out the sides.
You will need to tighten the fabric again at the end.

  • Decide on what you want the wreath to say and sketch it out on
    the fabric.
I chose the saying "hello fall" and used the two different
fonts to make it interesting. I had to google how to embroider and used
this website as my guide: Needle 'n Thread. I used the
chain stitch for "fall" and the stem stitch for "hello".

  • After I had the phrase embroidered on the fabric, I started cutting
out leaves and grouping them together.
I also used some leftover fabric
from a tank top that I shortened to make some rosettes and to add
    interest.

  • Lastly, I added the burlap
garland around the edge as a ruffle.
I threw in a wide stitch through
the garland edge and pulled it tight until I had the right size. Once I
tied it off and brought the two edges together, I turned over the hoop
and hot glued the ruffle to the back of the wreath.

  • I love the bright colors of the design and natural textures of the linen and burlap together!

Thanks Ashley!!!

 {isn't her little boy the cutest?}
