Glittered Interchangeable Brooches AND pumpkins, plus a linky and prizes!!

  I had the opportunity to try out Krylon's new Glitter Blast Spray Paint last week. I was SO excited -- a product that combines two of my favorite things: spray paint AND glitter. Wow! But I secretly had my doubts about how this product could work. Wouldn't the glitter clog up the nozzle? Plus, all the glitter paint I have tried in the past ended up getting dulled down when put in a liquid form. I was excited to see how it Krylon's Glitter Blast worked.

I decided to try to make a Fashion Accessory project with this new Glitter Spray Paint. I love a good challenge. So I came up with a glittery brooch that is interchangeable. 

 

It can be worn as a brooch with a pin on the back, but I also made a pass-through on the back so a belt can be looped through and it can be worn on a belt. And this pass-through also makes it work as an embellishment on a headband.

 

Plus, you can pin it on a pillow and it's jewelry for your home. LOL!

And because I couldn't resist glittering everything in site, I sprayed a few Dollar Store Pumpkins to display in my beadboard-backed cabinet. I love them displayed on my cake plates!!



Here's what I did to make these Glittered Interchangeable Brooches:

1. Spray the Dollar Tree flowers with Krylon's Glitter Blast paint. Let dry. 


2. Meanwhile, make the fabric flowers. 


3. Then hot glue fabric flowers and spray painted flowers on to felt. 


4. Cut around the flowers. 


5. Then add a rectangular strip, gluing on two, opposite sides -- this creates the pass-through for belts or headbands. 


6. Hot glue a pin to the back so you can wear it as a brooch.

And, I couldn't stop at one. Here are a few other ones I made...

And I Glitter Blasted some upholstery tacks, a button cover and a head band:

The best part about this product?? The glitter doesn't rub off!!! I put the pumpkins between my legs to tie the ribbon on and there was no glitter left over on my pants. Yay!!!

Make Summer Fabric Rosette Jewelry!! {tutorial}

I love making Rolled Fabric Flowers  jewelry!

There are so many possibilities! 

You can make all sorts of jewelry with this little flowers, plus add them to home decor items like pillows, placemats, dishtowels and more !

So the other day, while my sister and her family were visiting, we sat down for a little "craft hour" and experimented making different Rolled Flower Gifts.

It was so much fun!!!

In case you haven't tried making these Rolled Flowers -- here's what you do:

1. Cut a 1-inch wide strip of material. We used fat quarters and cut one strip for a small flower, and combined two strips to make a larger flower.





2. Fold the strip in half width-wise and add a dot of hot glue, then immediately roll up the material {keep it folded in half} about 10 rolls. Then secure with another drop of hot glue.



3. Now fold the material in toward the center of the flower and continue rolling the material around the center of the flower. Hot glue a dot every rotation.

4. Continue this way until you run out of material and secure the end of the fabric to the flower.



5. Put hot glue on the back of the flower and attach it to a piece of felt.

6. Once the glue has cooled, cut around the flower on the felt.



7. Now you have a flower you can make into a pin, hairclip, or ring. Combine more than one flower to make a necklace by attaching the flowers to a piece of felt. Put pieces of chain underneath the flowers to secure the chain to the felt and flowers. Then cut around all of the flowers and attach a clasp to the end of the chain and a jump ring to the other end.

And an even easier and faster gift idea is hot gluing embellishments to the ring blanks or hairclip/bookmark forms.

We also covered some buttons with fabric and hot glued them onto the blanks.

This makes a great gift.

Add the bookmark to a book or bookstore gift card for a fun stocking stuffer!!!

Guest Project - Make a beautiful and Functional Cork Board Calendar!

Hi lovely readers of Tatertots and Jello!  

I'm Michaela from Michaela Noelle Designs. 

 I'm so excited to be here sharing my cork board calender tutorial!

I go to school at Seattle Pacific University and just got my own apartment this year that I share with a few friends.  I have self-diagnosed OCD and love all things organized and stylish, so I created this big cork board calender to keep me extra on top of things!

I love having my month to month calender, but this one is nice because it's large and I can only view a week at a time.  

It keeps me scheduled, but also keeps me grounded, because I can't look into the future too much! Livin' life one day week at a time (:

Here's what you'll need:

A package of square cork boards (Joanne's Fabric), 

cute fabric, 

accent ribbon, 

glue gun, 

paper and scissors.

Cut out a 1 1/2 inch wide strip of fabric and hot glue it to the edge of the cork.  Then glue the ribbon on the edge of the fabric to hide any sign of fraying.

Cut off the excess fabric and ribbon.  Next, write or type the days of the week.  I hand wrote mine on sketch book paper with a thin sharpie.  Glue it on in a corner or the middle of the fabric strip.

I chose to put my fabric strip and day of the week at a different place on the cork for ever square, just to add some interest.  Here's the finished product next to my shoe calender!

I can't tell you how much I love this.  Just the other day I was about to flip the TV on and catch some HGTV, but I glanced at my calender and saw I had to take an online quiz!  I'd be a hot mess without it!

Guest Project -- Make Whimsical Glove Purses {great party craft}

Hello!

 

My name is Chrissy and I’m thrilled to be guest posting on Jen's Tatertots and Jello Blog. 

My blog is about to get a makeover and a name change.  Currently Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow but soon to be Hoot Designs.  

This super fun purse is great for a young girl or with a long strap can be worn to dress up an outfit of yours.

The supplies are super simple, many you might already have. Buttons, sequins, ribbon, felt, $1 gloves, oval glass beads and puffy paint.

 

     

In this photo it shows buttons as “rings” and dotted fingertips.  Really here is no right or wrong with this project.

Now you need your “flap” for the purse, which you will want to be able to get inside of.   This is simply cut from felt with pinking sheers and hand sewn to the back part of the opening of the glove.  Cut it as wide as the wrist of your glove.  I made it with a fold making it two ply which you will eventually hot glue together to seal the threads inside.  It also makes the flap more stable.  I hand stitched it to the glove edge across the fold of the flap.

The left photo shows the flap unembellished and on the right with the oval glass beads attached with E6000 glue and a few sequins added with a needle and thread.  The same paint on the fingers and dotted around the trim is also used to make the snowman’s buttons and face features.

Here is another variation, dots for a ring and the addition of the felt hat.  The colors you choose and the decorations you can add are endless!

After all your embellishments are added you can add a ribbon for your strap. This can be hot glued to the flap inside seams before you hot glue it shut around the edges.
