Swanky Spray Paint Transformations

Ok, time for a cool post!Spray paint transformations!
Yes, that's fun things you can do with spray paint to transform an object and give it an entirely new look.
 Awesome? Of course it is!

First off - are you the type of person who walks right past the old glassware and knickknack figurines at a flea market or at the thrift shop without giving them a second glance? Check out these photos

Vintage Dining Room Set Makeover: Paint It Black

What a difference a coat of paint can make!

I've been pining over the look of traditional vintage dining room sets with black chairs and black table bottoms where the table top is left with a natural wood finish. (similar to the table and chairs shown in the photo below)

This photo was my color inspiration:

Then I came across an old dining room set that was decent

DIY Entertainment Unit Remodel -- Reveal!!

 A month and a couple ruined shirts later, my DIY entertainment center is done!! Yay!  More details can be found in my update post here, but basically we moved into this house about 9 years ago. The original owners built it with custom maple cabinets. They are really nice, but I really love a more clean look. So finally I got up enough courage to paint them.

The entertainment center was nice, but the space inside for a television was very small, and the room is so big that we really needed a bigger tv. So we decided to rip out the center section of the unit to accommodate a larger television. Our friend and DIY neighbor Brent helped us figure out a way to make hollow back on the back of the unit

{here it is half way done}

We installed a fake back, with room for all of the cables and to help hold up the upper portion of the cabinets. The right panel opens up.

Then we installed beadboard over the back with a panel that opens so we can have access to those cables.

We made a new shelf that goes all the way across the unit -- so we can put the AV components on it. And my father-in-law came up with a way to hold up the shelf with a bolt that goes through a hollow wood dowel. It works great!!

When it came to painting, I used a great ebook -- Altar'd by Mandi and Colby Morris. It has tons of great painting tips and tricks. Including what kind of paintbrushes to buy and techniques. I went with an oil-based paint and primer which will hold up better than water-based paint.

All in all, I love my new entertainment unit. It's cleaner looking and I think the beadboard really adds a lot of character to the piece.

Plus, I think the Pottery Barn White really brightens up the room. I was considering adding a glaze over the top, but I think I prefer the clean white look of the paint against the tan walls.

I also found some beautiful knobs at Anthropologie -- for half off!!

{Do you see the Girl Scout cookies on the coffee table?? LOL!}

And next up -- my Family Frame Wall and cabinets!! I decided that I needed a more neutral background to take pictures of my projects. So I am planning on painting this little nook -- Martha Stewart Arrowroot. With maybe a slight glaze over the top.

And then -- on to the kitchen!!!!

 I plan to paint the cabinets Pottery Barn Marscopone and the island Martha Stewart Arrowroot with a slight glaze.

I hope I can get through the project. The cabinet doors on the entertainment unit almost put me over the edge!!!

And because I had an extra 30 minutes last night, I made a little

"Lucky" St. Patty's Day pillow.

I'll be sharing that with you tonight since there's only 2 days until St. Patrick's Day - LOL!

 Have a wonderful day!

Guest Project -- $7 Yard Sale Nightstand Makeover!!

Hey Y'all!

I'm Myra from The Casabella Project and My Blessed Life

I'm thrilled to be here at Tatertots and Jello!
{Thank you, Jen!!}

I'm a yard sale, thrift shop, spray paint, craft and decor junkie and I'm excited to share my yard sale nightstand makeover with you!

I spotted this nightstand/end table at a yard sale for $7. I hesitated slightly when I saw that it was laminate, but it's actually good quality with a dovetailed drawer and solid wood instead of particle board under the laminate. The shape is just adorable and the price was right, so I bought it. I couldn't wait to give it a new look!
1. I lightly sanded it down with a coarse sanding pad. Old stringy tape was stuck to the sides {eewww}, so sanding took care that.
2. Then I primed the nightstand with white Rustoleum American Accents oil-based spray primer and let it dry for a few days.
3. I used Rustoleum American Accents Blossom White spray paint in a few light coats to finish off the paint process.
{lookin' better!}

After a few days of forcing myself to allow the paint to dry and harden, I lightly distressed the nightstand's edges. I also distressed the drawer a bit. I love how it added texture, color and depth. The knobs are from Hobby Lobby where I scored them for 50% off - only $2.50 each! Woo to the hoo!

Now for the really fun part... stenciling!!

{supplies I used}
1. I divided the top into quadrants so I would have the center vertically and horizontally. I couldn't find my hard measuring tape, but a sewing measuring tape and a ruler worked just fine.
2. Then I taped down my stencil with blue painter's tape.
3. I squeezed Americana's Bleached Sand acrylic paint onto a foam plate {fancy, I know!}.
4. Then I lightly brushed the paint onto the stencil with a foam brush. The key here is to not saturate the brush, but to lightly and repeatedly add more paint to the stencil. You could also use a small foam roller for this step.

I continued stenciling the design all over the top of the nightstand. {Don't you just love those sweet little fingers peeking over the edge?} Once the stencil was dry, I sprayed two light coats of clear matte spray paint on it to give it a little bit of extra protection.

{swoon}
I'm thrilled with how my nightstand turned out!

It was easy and inexpensive to makeover. I only spent about $12 for supplies that I didn't have on hand.

{more eye candy}
We all love a good before and after, right?

I hope you're inspired to makeover a piece of furniture or even to stencil something in your home. I would love for you to visit my blogs - The Casabella Project and My Blessed Life.
Again, thank you SO much for having me, Jen!
