foodie blog alert
Have you visited the
?
Marie is a Chicago cook. Every dish she features on her blog is beautifully photographed and looks like you want to dig right in and take a bite! I have prepared many of her recipes and each one was really delicious, all worth repeating. Here are a few recent dishes from just one post.
chicken with mustard herb paste
grilled shrimp & lobster gremolata( I will just go with the shrimp that I have in the freezer from Costco)
garlic grilled tomatoes, so simple
She prepares desserts in the simple way that I like to...easy combining of quality ice cream with something special like liquors, fresh fruit, special cookies, etc.

Dairy Free Müd
Another great student project, this time by Beatrice Menis & Mara Rodríguez both students of Elisava, Barcelona. Concept brand, Müd, offer lactose free cupcakes, donuts, cookies and loaf cakes which you can combine with coffee, tea or hot chocolate in little combo packs. Effortlessly cool and stylish, with a 'small bakery' feel using hand applied stickers.

Sustainable origami food box
This origami food box, designed by Michealle Lee, from Philippines is packaging for a quick service mobile eatery in Manila, Philippines called Guactruck. The packaging resembles a bud that blooms into a flower when opened. It was created with sustainability in mind, being only one piece of paperboard with no glue or plastic.

Oreo turns 100!
Oreo cookies was founded in NYC on 6th March 1912, and turns 100 in a couple of weeks.
the only thing I've found is a youtube video showing their 100th anniversary packaging.
I did however find Oreo's original packaging (via White Dot), which is a treat in itself!
Also, I found the 90yr anniversary pack, I'm not sure if this is official or just a proposal by designer Chad Upham. The special edition packaging was designed to hold 90 individually wrapped cookies, each representing a year which includes historic pictures and facts. Packaged in a compact box with decorative band, the tray unfolds to become a six-foot long timeline of the 20th century, a perfect centerpiece for parties. The box has a hand-lettered logotype.
Whether real or proposal, it's a nice piece for collectors and cookie enthusiasts. I would've liked to see a reprint of the old pack, like Coca-Cola did last summer with printing retro graphics on the can and limited edition old bottle runs. I feel they could've done much better than the pack in the video. A marketing opportunity missed perhaps?

In my never ending desire for crunchy food, I have discovered a delicious healthy chip, full of real ingredients. The company also makes other varieties, need to try some more.

dinner tonight...chicken pot pie
In my efforts to empty the freezer before our next trip to Costco, I uncovered frozen puff pastry and chicken tenderloins this morning, so more man food tonight. I used this recipe with a few exceptions. I added 1/3 cup each of sherry and white wine and I used milk instead of half & half. Also did not have carrots so added small diced red pepper. Going to be yummmm.

Honeybells are here
and as usual for only about a month or so depending on the crop this year. The amazingly sweet and juicy tangerine/grapefruit hybrid, also known as Tangelos, are grown along the Indian River in Florida. Groceries now stock them as they have gained in popularity. Many people still like to pre order and have them shipped. We have ordered from Hale Groves in the past but the last few years, the groceries in our area have had plenty. Enjoy! They are our favorite winter treat!

quick turtles
I made two large batches of these treats in 40 minutes this morning!
You need these three things
Heat oven to 350.
Place pretzels on cookie sheet.
Place Rolo pieces on top of pretzels.Make sure to buy the individual rolls at the grocery checkout and not the bags so you do not have to unwrap individual pieces.
Place in oven, set timer for 4 minutes.
Take out and place pecan on each one.No need to hurry, they stay warm for awhile.
Cool in fridge and package in boxes, tins or bags.
