Santam spoofs Nando's for spoofing Santam

I love when advertisers take a copycat ad and challenge the copycat. What would be even more fantastic is if Nando's accepted Santam's request (for copying them...) and did deliver the requested meals to the children's home. Watch the ads in the order posted to understand what I'm talking about. Nando's gets a taste of its own medicine.

Movie Poster backs - a different side

LG's Home theatre 3D ad's showing a movie (or in this case, the back of a movie poster) is great art direction by Sao Paulo's Y&R. I find Forrest Gump's the most successful, but love the concept!

Photo-sensitive sunblock ad

What a great use of photochromic ink (ink that changes colour when exposed to light). This clever little ad is for Sundown Sunblock, by DDB Brasil.  The original form is a pale couple on the beach, the man (obviously NOT wearing sunblock) reddens when exposed to direct sunlight. This type of ink, as well as thermochromic ink (heat sensitive) can be pricey, but a creative solution looking for a problem. Once manufacturer of these inks is CTI Inks.

Beach coffins

Friends of Cancer Patients asked JWT Dubai to raise awareness about the risks of over-exposure to the sun, which causes skin cancer killing 20 people daily. They came up with an ambient idea to highlight this fact: 300 beach towels, shaped like coffins, were displayed around the beach and distributed among the public. The initial reaction of the beach goers was shock, followed by an instant appreciation of the gesture; many of them even asking for free sunscreen. Check my previous post on another cancer awareness towel here.

Mind the GAP

A great example of non-invasive promotional sale graphics by GAP. While most promotional flashes are just stuck on top of an existing ad. This stripe feels integrated and considered. It draws attention to itself without using strictly bold type and the predictable red 'sale' colour. Elegant and modern. The in-store graphics use a cyan diagonal stripe with type while the print ads the overlayed stripe cuts the corner of the ad forming a triangle.

Call me....It's purely professional.

What a fantastic business card for a makeup artist! A stamp of a lipstick kiss with the name and number, to be stamped on napkins and pieces of paper, much like you would do when giving your number to a guy you've met on a night out. By Brazilian advertising agency OpusMultipla.

Paul Prabhakar's portfolio

Stumbled across a[n underrated] portfolio on Behance by copywriter and advertiser Paul Prabhakar from Leo Bunett Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. He's got some witty copy-led campaigns such as the cheeky Anchor beer ads and the Eco Heaven Bazaar unique hand printed repurposed posters.
Excellent in-store promotion at a bookshop for the release of the new Harry Potter book that includes broom parking zones and invisible readers and floating books. Would love to see more of this type of work here in Cyprus.

Sir Richard Condoms saves you money...in the long run

New startup  condom company, Sir Richard's launch campaign is less sex, more practical economics. They simply inform you how much you'll be saving on not having an unplanned child by buying condoms. By using a price sticker on the otherwise modest and fuss-free packs, the campaign aims at raising awareness of the cost of things associated with having a child (diapers, schooling, and other cliche spiraling costs). This is the brainchild of Boulder-based TDA in Colorado. The company also donates one condom per purchased condom to a developing country.  Read more here.

BMW flash projection

BMW flashed a projection during a new commercial on a focus group to burn their logo into the viewers eye which the viewers would see once closing their eyes. The same effect you have when staring at the sun or a bright light. I'm assuming this type of advertising would only work in a cinema theatre (definitely not on a youtube video). Neat effect, nice to see advertisers are pushing some boundaries again.

Promises, promises...

Vintage ads for Hanes women's stockings. Very amusing copy:

You can read about women who are unforgettable, disarming and a not-so-quiet sensation,
or become one by wearing new MYSTRECE.

If you dipped your legs in liquid chiffon you'd get the fit, the look, the utter cling of MYSTRECE...
