Ken dumps Barbie!

Ken finds some hard truths about Barbie from Greenpeace on Vimeo.

Greenpeace's anti-deforestation campaign against Barbie (Mattel) is clever! Very clever! Ken finally finds out that Barbie's packaging is from Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), Indonesia's most notorious rainforest destroyer. The paper is sourced from the natural habitat of tigers, orang-utangs and elephants.

Float my (ice cream) boat

Frederick's Ice Cream has commissioned the first ice-cream truck / boat of it's kind to celebrate National Ice ream week in the UK (May 30-June 5).  HMS Flake 99 made it's first maiden voyage through Blackpool and aims to visit Venice in 2012. The point? Besides serving ice cream to fisherman and pedestrians alike, the goal is to raise awareness about the decrease of ice cream trucks due to council bans on the vehicles in certain areas with concerns about noise pollution, childhood obesity and rising fuel costs. Seriously??? Get your kids to play outdoors once in a while and don't feed them microwave meals. Must admit though, the high-pitched jingle is like the song the mermaids sang to Ulysses to lure the sailors to the rocks and kids seem to hear for miles. Evil, pure evil!

Staying alive in Nutteno

Brilliant road safety ad for City of Nettuno, Italy.

'Staying Alive. Stay sober and you'll stay alive.
Every year, 6000 people get killed in road accidents caused by alcool abuse, especially on weekend nights.'

Drugs: Whats the worst that could happen?

Clever anti-drug campaign (found here). Ohhh...snails and salt, now that's a creepy one.

Beach coffins

Friends of Cancer Patients asked JWT Dubai to raise awareness about the risks of over-exposure to the sun, which causes skin cancer killing 20 people daily. They came up with an ambient idea to highlight this fact: 300 beach towels, shaped like coffins, were displayed around the beach and distributed among the public. The initial reaction of the beach goers was shock, followed by an instant appreciation of the gesture; many of them even asking for free sunscreen. Check my previous post on another cancer awareness towel here.

Skin Cancer beach towel

Summer is coming, which means long days at the beach, watermelon, bikinis and of course SPF 30, reapplied every few hours. A funny beach towel, until you realise its a skin cancer awareness towel. Take care this summer.

Sir Richard Condoms saves you money...in the long run

New startup  condom company, Sir Richard's launch campaign is less sex, more practical economics. They simply inform you how much you'll be saving on not having an unplanned child by buying condoms. By using a price sticker on the otherwise modest and fuss-free packs, the campaign aims at raising awareness of the cost of things associated with having a child (diapers, schooling, and other cliche spiraling costs). This is the brainchild of Boulder-based TDA in Colorado. The company also donates one condom per purchased condom to a developing country.  Read more here.

World AIDS day 2010 - Play safe

World AIDS Day today - 1st December. Play safe! This is a poem by Dom Agius written for Yatzer.com - a leading design blog by Greek Costas Voyiatzis.
We are Bold.
We are Brave.
We are Stubborn and we are Strong.
We have been Red, Hot and Blue.
We are, on occasion,  All the Colours of the Rainbow.
We have too often been forgotten or mislaid as Invisible
But, my dear, Please Understand
We Are Everywhere and we are Not Going Away.
You can talk of Genetics and Lifestyle Choices
While we are busy Living.
We will Work.
We will Dance.
We will Love and Kiss,
Laugh, Lust and Learn.
We will not be Unheard.
Sometimes we are Battered and Bruised but we will
Never.
Ever.
Be Beaten.

We Are.

We all scream for Playland!!

Playland is a theme park in Vancouver with some wicked ad campaign over the last few years thanks to ad agency ReThink Canada. I found a post on Very Dandy blog which has all the campaigns since 2002. The most recent with the portrait silhouettes on a bright background are visually very string, and stand out in a normally fluffy-family, stock-photography industry.

Although admittedly the 2007 campaign with the sick toys is hilarious. It says 'You'll be sick from fun'.

Red Brick Beer

Red Brick Beer is exclusively aimed at the US south eastern market. With a small media budget, the brand uses their packaging to advertise and guerilla fly posting. The tongue-in cheek ads are just cheeky enough to make you smile but not offend. I like the use of playful type and lettering with vintage inspired colour combinations. 22Squared are responsible for the design and advertising campaign.

Anti-discrimination campaign

We here at Pandora Ogilvy pitched (and won) for the E.U sponsored Anti-discrimination campaign. The copy reads:

Joy doesn't discriminate.
Passion doesn't discriminate.
Pain doesn't discriminate.
Love doesn't discriminate.
Time doesn't discriminate.
Who are you to discriminate?
Our differences make the difference.

The campaign has gone live for the summer of 2010 - Print, TV and Radio. These are the posters:
General: Love doesn't discriminate is highlighted. Say no to racism is the subheading.
Age: Time doesn't discriminate is highlighted. Say no to age discrimination is the subheading.
Homosexuality: Passion doesn't discriminate is highlighted. Say no to discrimination against sexual preferences is subheading.

Also spotted in an elevator of an age care centre in Lefkosia is a newspaper clipping of the ad.

Be stupid

DIESEL's new ad campaign, created by ANOMALY, says BE STUPID. I agree...and love the campaign, the timing is perfect in the recession - now is the time to go back to our roots, experiment, play, fail, and do it all over again.

New Peugeot. Motion & Emotion

Peugeot turned 200 years in 2010, and has unveiled it's new visual identity and global signature "Motion & Emotion", with the objective of reinforce the emotion of driving a car. The website is clean an contemporary with the web address New-Peugeot.

The Lion, a symbol of Peugeot since 1858, has been brought up to date. The new icon is simpler and more dynamic earning a more three dimensional form with the use of a metallic effect. The detail of the lion (the serpent like tongue) is lost, so it looks less heraldic, which is a shame.

The blue colour, associated with the brand takes the form of a sleeker word mark that sits below the new symbol. Below is the evolution of the mark:

The advert was created by BETC Euro RSCG with the new mark and tag line. I think the whole campaign is excellent and the concept is timely. New year, fresh look, contemporary style. Keeping up to date!
