Just back from a short break in Milan, my beau took me into a small hidden store in the Brera area, tucked away in the leafy inner courtyard on the Corso Como walk, is the multi-funcional space consisting of a retail store, cafe, 3-suite hotel, gallery and bookshop. Founded 21 years ago in Sept 1991 by gallerist and publisher Carla Sozzani, 10 Corso Como is on every highlight list of places to shop in Milan. It's best for luxury brands: Marni, Lanvin, Prada, more. Special one-of-a-kind pieces and exclusive collections designed exclusively for 10 Corso Como. Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani selects most of the products herself! There is also a 10 Corso Como Outlet in Via Tazzoli 3, open Wed-Sat where you will find off-season items mix with one-of-a-kind statement pieces at a more affordable price.

On your marks...
Centauro is a concept sport store in Sao Paolo designed by AUM Arquitetos. The idea revolves around a race track which is a strong graphic and recognizable element. The red track spreads through the store moving from the lower to upper floor, becoming the staircase, counter and lining the floor, ceiling and walls, acting as a corporate identification element of the brand. Sexy, glossy and graphic!

30°Coffee
What a great idea! A laundry with a coffee shop and t-shirt store. You may as well drink coffee and browse the shirts while waiting for your clothes to wash and dry. A great way to capitalize on the 30 - 50 minutes someone spends in the laundry doing nothing. The logo type and name comes from 30°C - the best temperature to wash clothes in, but in this case C stands for coffee. All the branding follows the graphics and icons used on clothing care labels, in my opinion it does still need a bit more work and refining, but overall a great concept. Project by Ekaterina Leontyeva from Paris.

Macaron jewels by Anagrama
Mexican design studio Anagrama are responsible for the sleek and clean branding of the first specialized macaron patisserie in Mexico, Theurel & Thomas. Macarons are considered a unique and delicate desert and so the branding had to represent the elegance and value thereof. As macarons are brightly coloured, the studio opted for a white primary colour with elegant use of typography and minimal use of cyan and magenta (as a nod to the French flag). The interior of the store is reminiscent of a jewelry store, with white-on-white furnishings, the only colours dotted around the store are the macarons. As this is new to Mexico, the idea is to present these delights as a luxury, rare treat. Mmmm...too pretty to eat!

Viktor & Rolf upside down
Back in 2005, looney Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf, opened a store in Milan with an upside-down concept that has oak parquet on the ceiling and chandeliers sprouting out of the floor. Everything, to the last detail was considered. The sign one the window is upside down, the door, the arches serve as seating, it's all just too creepy. Like an optical illusion. Pretty trippy...

In 2007 the pair lent their unique design sense to Rémy Cointreau's Champagne house Piper Heidsieck to create Viktor & Rolf Rosé Sauvage, turning the traditional Champagne bottle on its head. The back is the front and the bottom of the bottle is the top. The related flutes and buckets are also upside down. The design won a diamond award in the 2008 Pentawards.

Frozen Yoghurt, the new Ice Cream
I've been seeing a bit of a trend in the last few years with frozen yoghurt replacing ice cream around the UK and particularly down at the harbour in Pafos, Cyprus. But I must admit, boutique shops are a weakness of mine and particularly when it involves food! So here are two of my favourite fro-yo shops.

This is very very minimalist, cold (in this case, frozen) looking Yoli in Berlin. The cool 3D cutouts are sleek like the concrete slap that is the counter. Amseldrosseel are responsible for the design. The colorful layered shapes were designed and composed by the designers using a CAD program and the CNC-cut out of white Forex plastic. Finally, the colors were put on the shapes by hand with colored non-reflective foil and the shapes were built into the shop.

This is London's SNOG, designed by Ico Design. Using british slang for kiss and naming the store Snog is cute an quirky. Snog is also a hybrid between snow + yoghurt. They really played with the 'snogging' lines for the collateral. The best one is 'I like snogging better than ice cream' ^_^ The design solution is bold, young and urban, making use if strange snog-land style illustrations for their summer campaign. Mmmmm....Yum!
