Capri Tiberio Palace

Heaven is a place on earth! The beautifully designed hotel Capri Tibiero Palace in the island of Capri come pretty close to it! The 'restyling' was conceived by interior designer Giampiero Panepinto.

The overall character is typical Capri Riviera of the 50’s with peroxide blondes and mint juleps circulating everywhere. The hotel has a great calmness and joy of luxury through its design, where neutral pallets are combined with vibrant upholsteries to rejuvenate and excite. Upon arrival you are instantly overwhelmed with the comfort of it all. Greeted by a lobby consisting of three gold-leaf coated ‘stands’ and a ‘Buffa’ remake vintage design desk from the 40’s acting as a reception desk,  you can’t help but appreciate the delicate detailing. Large openings allow for ample daylight to scatter through the interiors while merging the outside in relationship.

 

Gorgeous patterns and neutral colour palettes cover the walls and floors. Sophia Lauren's portraits are also a feature that send you back into another era of silver screen sirens and  'mad men'. One little thing that could be looked at, only to suit the restyles look and class of the hotel, if the branding. The website is very average in comparison to the stylish and elegant new look of the hotel. For me, it's the very small details, that could make the complete project look considered and revamped, as opposed to an after-thought. Something minimal and elegant with the same powder blue, ochre and coral colour palettes, taking inspiration from the nature inspired textile which were exclusively produced for the hotel by Dedar & Limonta, could make a pop in your mind's eye. Room 606

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Arne Jacobsen’s SAS House in Copenhagen, now the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel. Room 606 is the last remaining interior of Arne Jacobsen’s masterpiece, carefully preserved and remains identical to Jacobsen’s original commission. Phaidon has released a book titled Room 606, examines the only preserved room in detail, from the custom fabrics used to the woodwork and furnishings. 

Wanderlust Hotel branding

Earlier this month I posted about the Wanderlust Hotel's interior and architecture which opened in Singapore in July 2010.  This time it's about their branding by Foreign Policy Design Group (what a cool name!!). Completely embracing the meaning of the word wanderlust (very strong or irresistible impulse to travel), FPDG made use of travel elements such as maps, airport luggage tape, tags and tickets, with a bit of a vintage twist. The colours and brown paper feel old and make lovely keepsakes. Have a browse through their site for more lovely branding work.

Another boutique hotel, Wanderlust in Singapore is located in 'Little India', the building was once used as an old school in the 1920's. The 29 rooms were each designed by award winning Singapore design agencies, given full freedom to do what they wanted.

Colours everything from the walls to the neon lights and the rainbow corridor leads to a outdoor deck with a customised mosaic-tiled jacuzzi.

Level 3 – Is it just Black and White by DP Architects

Walk across the black corridor and enter into the contrasting white rooms to discover Origami and Pop-Art works.

Level 4 – Creature Comforts by fFurious

Get cosy with friendly monsters in each room that presents a different vibe and be assured of a fantasy-filled experience.

Villa Amanzi in Phuket

Boutique hotel, Villa Amanzi in Phuket is a paradise hanging off the cliffs with 360 degree views of sea and mountains. Only six bedroom residences with full access to the infinity pool with uninterrupted sea views, a full-time chef on the property and ultimate privacy. More photos on Knstrct.

Classical Baby Grand Hotel in Athens

There's nothing classical about the Classical Baby Grand Hotel in Athens. It's quirky and is understood the second you step inside and see the mini-cooper reception desks (pure Austin Powers) which leads into the graffiti room. The boutique hotel brings together all the things that make Athens unique; history, culture, innovation, and diversity. 10 international artists from the fields of urban art, graffiti design, and illustration have transformed the rooms into unique spaces of escapism. The website could use a serious redesign - the branding is weak, but that's from a branding perspective. The hotel has been ranked amongst the 65 best new places to stay in the world. Room 302 - Harmony's Helm by Friendswithyou (USA)

If you're ever in Copenhagen and want a different (more arty) hotel experience, try Hotel Fox. A boutique hotel with 61 unique rooms, designed by 21 international artists. Looking at the rooms on their site, it's a bit like choosing a room out of a comic book, some are minimal while others are completely alice-in-wonderlandesque! The sure thing is that each room is different. On the website you can click to view a room and also read the artists bio, who designed it. My favourite (difficult to choose amongst so many) is Room 302. Harmony's Helm by Friendswithyou, which really wins because I have a thing for golden cows heads and mosaics.

Hotel Missoni by Base

Spanish design studio Base Design, in collaboration with Missoni fashion house and Rezidor Hotel Group, designed the identity for Missoni boutique hotels. The logo incorporates Missoni's current logo to form a solid H, which doesn't battle with Missoni's bold colour palettes and patterns for attention.

The bathroom amenities are oh-so-slick, with minimal type design, focussing on matt colours (the popular pallete of the fashion house) and neat single use tear bags.

Tthe promotional movie is made from the footage of the shoot - love LOVE love the art direction...
