Capri Tiberio Palace

Heaven is a place on earth! The beautifully designed hotel Capri Tibiero Palace in the island of Capri come pretty close to it! The 'restyling' was conceived by interior designer Giampiero Panepinto.

The overall character is typical Capri Riviera of the 50’s with peroxide blondes and mint juleps circulating everywhere. The hotel has a great calmness and joy of luxury through its design, where neutral pallets are combined with vibrant upholsteries to rejuvenate and excite. Upon arrival you are instantly overwhelmed with the comfort of it all. Greeted by a lobby consisting of three gold-leaf coated ‘stands’ and a ‘Buffa’ remake vintage design desk from the 40’s acting as a reception desk,  you can’t help but appreciate the delicate detailing. Large openings allow for ample daylight to scatter through the interiors while merging the outside in relationship.

 

Gorgeous patterns and neutral colour palettes cover the walls and floors. Sophia Lauren's portraits are also a feature that send you back into another era of silver screen sirens and  'mad men'. One little thing that could be looked at, only to suit the restyles look and class of the hotel, if the branding. The website is very average in comparison to the stylish and elegant new look of the hotel. For me, it's the very small details, that could make the complete project look considered and revamped, as opposed to an after-thought. Something minimal and elegant with the same powder blue, ochre and coral colour palettes, taking inspiration from the nature inspired textile which were exclusively produced for the hotel by Dedar & Limonta, could make a pop in your mind's eye. On your marks...

Centauro is a concept sport store in Sao Paolo designed by AUM Arquitetos. The idea revolves around a race track which is a strong graphic and recognizable element. The red track spreads through the store moving from the lower to upper floor, becoming the staircase, counter and lining the floor, ceiling and walls, acting as a corporate identification element of the brand. Sexy, glossy and graphic!

Godiva's dripping interiors

Godiva Chocolatier is one of the most elegant Belgian hand crafted chocolate brands in the world, founded back in 1926.  The identity of the brand is perfectly reflected in interior of their Japanese store, designed by Wonderwall Architects, which features dripping and melting ceilings and wall. The shop keeps a primarily classical interior otherwise, with the dripping ceiling giving it a modern and cartoon-like twist.

Level Green

Back in 2009, Berlin architects J. Mayer H. designed a permanent exhibition on sustainability for Volks Wagon's Autostadt visitor attraction at their Wolfsburg factory. Below you can see the inspiration is the green recycle symbol which grew and evolved into this overwhelming, futuristic looking exhibition space, keeping the colour pallette green and black.

CW&T Studio

CW&T is a Brooklyn based multi-disciplinary studio designing everything from lighting, to iPhone apps and jewelry. Some of their projects seem experimental and still in prototype stage, but none the less, great thinkers. Here are three of their projects I like:

Circle hook light

An elegant design, the Circle Hook Light is designed for a standard fluorescent FC16T9 bulb. Instead of using a switch to turn the light on and off, the bulb is hooked in and unhooked and rotated to turn off. The solid brass polished hook looks more like a coat hanger on it's own, but with the revealed circular bulb forms part of a sculptural wall piece. The only thing that comes to my mind is how one would turn the light off if it's been on for a while, because they can get pretty hot! Are gloves supplied?

OBK

One Brass Knuckle, or OBK, is a nuckle duster ring which comes in stainless steel, gunmetal black or gold finish. Despite just being an interesting piece of jewelry, functional too according to their promo clip of a girl beating a steak. Nice shape!

Oblik

Oblik is a 6-floor residential,1-floor commercial block in Yokohama, Japan. The Facade consists of 13 degree cuts cast in fair faced concrete.

Fallingwater is 75 years old

Frank Lloyd Wright designed this home with cantilevered floors in the woods of the Allegheny Mountains for the Kaufmann family of Pittsburgh in Mill Run, Western Pennsylvania. It is considered Wright's greatest masterpiece.

Barcode House

Inspired by barcodes, architects  David Jameson Architect Inc. designed this slick and modern. I wonder what the views are from the apartment? Is it private or facing other buildings, which means it has no privacy. Maybe for a office or studio space it would be good, but for a home it's not too private.  Still, nice work! One that's NOT on the list, or modernist for that matter, but that I find ingeniously African is this repurposed container gas station in Uganda. Absolute Africa <3

Michelin House

A short walk from South Kensington Tube station in London, you will find the art nouveau styled Michelin House which is 100 years old this year. Completed in 1911, it was designed by a Michelin employee, Francoise Espinasse. It served as a central London tyre fitting bay until 1985, after which it was sold to Sir Terence Conran and Paul Hamlyn for 8 million pounds. The building today houses the Bidendum Restaurant & Oyster bar with its beautiful tiled walls, glass stained windows featuring a cigar-smoking Bidendum (a.k.a The Michelin man) and mosaic mural detail.
