10 Corso Como

 Just back from a short break in Milan, my beau took me into a small hidden store in the Brera area, tucked away in the leafy inner courtyard on the Corso Como walk, is the multi-funcional space consisting of a retail store, cafe, 3-suite hotel, gallery and bookshop. Founded 21 years ago in Sept 1991 by gallerist and publisher Carla Sozzani, 10 Corso Como is on every highlight list of places to shop in Milan. It's best for luxury brands: Marni, Lanvin, Prada, more. Special one-of-a-kind pieces and exclusive collections designed exclusively for 10 Corso Como. Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani selects most of the products herself! There is also a 10 Corso Como Outlet in Via Tazzoli 3, open Wed-Sat where you will find off-season items mix with one-of-a-kind statement pieces at a more affordable price.

On your marks...

Centauro is a concept sport store in Sao Paolo designed by AUM Arquitetos. The idea revolves around a race track which is a strong graphic and recognizable element. The red track spreads through the store moving from the lower to upper floor, becoming the staircase, counter and lining the floor, ceiling and walls, acting as a corporate identification element of the brand. Sexy, glossy and graphic!

30°Coffee

What a great idea! A laundry with a coffee shop and t-shirt store. You may as well drink coffee and browse the shirts while waiting for your clothes to wash and dry. A great way to capitalize on the 30 - 50 minutes someone spends in the laundry doing nothing.  The logo type and name comes from 30°C - the best temperature to wash clothes in, but in this case C stands for coffee. All the branding follows the graphics and icons used on clothing care labels, in my opinion it does still need a bit more work and refining, but overall a great concept. Laundry in Milano

The Laundry is a concept store in Milan, via Vigevano 20, which has a few different type of collections namely:

Main collection - Reused fabrics from selected tailors, textile merchants, etc.
Selected By collection: vintage clothes which changes month to month.
T-shirt Lab: Limited edition printed shirts by local graphic designers.
Reused: Recycled fabrics

The store also hosts music events with local DJs and also offer the space to various artists as an exhibition space. Clean, washed and NEAT!!

Hot New Spring Item: The Traveler Shoulder Bag

This spring I've decided to do some things differently. From illustrating scenarios in my product descriptions to including models faces in my photographs, I'm just tweaking some things to make some improvements to the Reclaimed Wreckage brand.  Some of the biggest include products in every price point, custom, one-of-a-kind clothing, and EVEN more jewelry. I'm also finding myself leaning more in forward, boxy-shaped, defined lines, and hardware accented handbags and extra-feminine clothing. We'll see how it goes. One of the greatest things about having a small brand is I can choose whatever the hell I want.

But anyways, the most recent of these new-price point items is my new Travel Bag made from blown rubber inner tubes. It's compact, crazy-durable, and can be wiped out with a wet towelette when your on the go. Its the perfect size to keep your passport, snacks, your wallet, and lipstick but not so heavy as to slow down the adventures you'll be experiencing.

Walk this way: United Nude

Founded by architect (see previous post) Rem D Koolhaas and shoemaker Galahad Clark, United Nude is my new obsession. Whilst out for a stroll in down town Nicosia, my beau and I walked past a shoe store with an interesting layout. Him being an interior designer, me being a shoe wearer, we decided to go in only to walk out with a pair of beautifully sculptured Lo Res shoes...for a friend! Dammit....I want, I want, I want! Sharp corners, neon lines, fantastic plastic, cupped heels...they had them all and I wanted them all.  Rem is best known for his Möbius shoe design which won the Rotterdem Design Award in 2003. 'UN is about clear concepts, elegance and innovation' and to prove it have also collaborated with fashion forward brands such as K-Swiss and designers Iris van Herpan and Antione Peters. 

The store had backlit display boxes with colour changing LED lights and glossy black surfaces.

Studio Spotlight: Studioprototype

Studioprototype is a small architectural design practice in Edessa, Greece. I fell in lust with their design for a 35 square meter bakery they did, and after visiting their site, knew it was love! For Elektra Bakery, the duo used Royal Mosa ceramic tiles (looks like marble to me) to dress counters, dark oak bread racks and tinted cedar wood boards for the facade. Mmmm...tastey combinations. Tom Dixon's black 'beat' pendant lights and Xavier Pauchard's metal chairs have been carfully selected not to overpower, but compliment the beautiful material used in this project. Overall, the store has a traditional bakery feel and a refined atmosphere. The signage is tastefully done in oxidized copper and backlit letters. I would like to see more of the branding and packaging but can't seem to find more info. You can appreciate when an architect does a cross-over project as their taste in materials and minimalism is evident without the fuss that an artist / designer would normally add.
